Getting great skin when you are pressed for time

By  |

How can you enjoy the feel-good benefits of a healthy, glowing and balanced complexion when you’re running around like a headless chook 99.9% of the time? Well, the first step is to slow down for a minute and read on – it’s easier to do than you think.

Easy as 1, 2, 3

When you’re on the go, it may seem impossible to fit in a 3-step daily skincare regimen – but you can! The products you use simply need to be fuss-free and easy to apply so you can be out the door in a flash. These steps include cleansing, exfoliating and moisturising – the holy trinity of balanced, healthy skin as cleansing works to break down dirt, oil and impurities, exfoliating removes dead skin cells for a smoother, younger skin texture and moisturising hydrates the skin to keep premature ageing at bay.
Busy bees should opt for a water-based foaming cleanser that lathers up rapidly to clean pores, remove impurities and washes off clean in a jiffy (I love CLEANSE by bT-Ceuticals™). Follow this with a quick, gentle exfoliating scrub that is suitable for daily use and seal in the hydration with an ultra-nourishing moisturiser that doubles as a protective barrier against environmental stresses when you’re out and about.

Masque it up

“I don’t have time to do face masques!” I hear you cry – but what if I told you that you could do it while you’re sleeping? Just once a week is all you need to let a deeply nourishing masque work its magic to de-stress your skin and keep you glowing, lifted and looking youthful. Look for masques that can be quickly applied as a cream and left on overnight. Come morning, you simply need to splash it off and get up and glow!

Skin food

Busy lifestyles can often mean you compromise what you put in your body (convenience/packaged foods, takeout, fast food, etc.), but this only adds fuel to fire for your stressed out skin. Eating fresh doesn’t have to mean hours of planning – simple beauty food choices include snacking on fresh fruit, raw nuts and a bit of dark chocolate (which is rich in antioxidants, yay!) instead of chips, muffins and biscuits; and swap out the burger and fries for a wholemeal sandwich loaded with skin-nourishing avocado and skin-purifying greens (cucumber, baby spinach, kale). Also, ditch the sodas and sugary drinks altogether and stay hydrated throughout the day with pure water and green or herbal tea – your skin will seriously thank you for it.

Pump it up

Exercise not only keeps our bodies toned and trim, the blood circulatory and cell activating benefits of physical movement also does wonders for energising our skin! If you’re super pressed for time, 15 minutes daily is all I’m asking (though at least 30 minutes is recommended). This could mean hopping off the bus a few stops earlier and briskly walking the rest of the way to work or taking the stairs instead of the lift. Just look for little ways to get more movement into your day and you won’t just notice an improvement in your skin, you’ll probably feel happier too. And happy inside = happy outside.
