9 Hair trends you’re seeing everywhere in 2017
This year will be about making subtle tweaks to what you’ve already got, go for those layers or test drive some eye-grazing bangs, which is perfect for those who are afraid of the major chop.
Looking for inspiration? Here are some trends you’ll totally dig for the rest of this year. If you’re looking for a fresh start, then there’s no better way than in your stylists chair and re-invent your look, so you’ll never have to cry out “I can’t do anything with my hair!”
Super Sleek
Just like JLo, break out your flat irons because straight, shiny and centre-parted hair is one of the biggest trends. But this style only works if your hair is super healthy, not fried.
STYLE TIP: Consider using SHU UEMURA straight forward blow dry oil, ghd natural bristle radial brush size 2 and the ghd platinum styler.
The Flip
The hair flip is effortless and one of the most flattering hairstyles. All it requires is to flip your hair from one side to the other, creating tons of volume as a result.
STYLE TIP: Create waves or at least something with a little bend; it only truly works with wavy hair because waves give it the perfect amount of volume. Use a little dry shampoo for texture.
Golden Bronde
In some lighting it’s blonde and in others it’s golden brown. This colour trend is called golden bronde and it’s the perfect warm-toned hair colour that can be adjusted to work on all skin tones. Considering something different? This could be your bronde year!
The Pony
There is always one for everyone. You can have a sleek pony or you can play it with some pulled back beachy waves and it can look just as elegant.
STYLE TIP: Tilt your head back when brushing into a ponytail and secure to ensure the underside of your ponytail is tight.
Faux Perms
Embrace the curls! This time of year causes havoc with our hair, resulting in fly-away curls and kinks no straightener can tame. Attack your hair with curling tongs for this fun trend, but this isn’t an everyday look because of the time it takes.
STYLE TIP: To keep the curl, I suggest using Kérastase mousse bouffant before blow drying before setting the curls with Aveda control force hairspray. The ghd creative curl wand is totally my favourite wand for this look. Don’t be shy the more hairspray the better as it will keep the style in for longer.
Bardot fringe
This year ask for ‘Brigette Bangs’ like Alexa Chung here.’, meaning fringe to us non-American folk. It is important to find the right bang for your face. Talk to your stylist so they can assess your face shape and determine the perfect bang for you. The bad news is that good bangs don’t come without a little upkeep.
STYLE TIP: Blowdry your bangs immediately, don’t dawdle, apply makeup or do anything before styling your bangs. Use a bristle brush because bristles are super close together unlike a nylon brush which will leave your bang with too many gaps due to bristles being too spaced apart.
Modern Bob
The bob never goes out of fashion and it will be a firm favourite this year. Rather than a classic bob cut, we’ll see a shorter back and slightly longer sides or a more pageboy look with soft layered texture to enhance the movement of the haircut. And you could add some seamless layers and waves to create a rad choppy bob.
Contour Colouring
This is highlighting certain sections of the hair to draw attention to your facial features. With contour colouring it picks out light and dark shadowing round the face which contours the hair in a similar as the makeup technique. It enhances length and definition to the bone structure and adds a more chiselled effect as well as highlighting skin tone.
The Shag
The shag is another effortless and very cool option for hair that has more texture or wave. The cut should have a rounded shape, fullest in the middle with very soft ends and it looks great with a fringe. It’s a beautiful way to highlight the face and a lovely long neck.
STYLE TIP: Accentuate the layers and bring out the texture in the hair with Aveda ‘Be curly’ hair spray.
Try one of this looks, your hair will thank you for it!
