Let the ‘merry’ go round
The other day, I was inspired by a wise and wonderful woman. Noni Hazlehurst.
Apart from being totally smitten by her on screen persona over the years and even more so in the package presented to her at the Logies, it was her acceptance speech into the Hall of Fame that left me mesmerized and in total admiration.
In her raw and honest approach, she presented many issues; racism, mental illness, gender inequality and whilst she stated that ‘yes, things are changing’ she presented a greater issue that there quite clearly needs to be more change, more acceptance and more positivity in a world ‘where our hearts are becoming cold’ and too accustomed to ‘bad news’.
Yes, bad news surrounds us, there is an endless supply of news channels (that remain 99% informative, yet fearful) and obstacles that we may face during our daily lives.
However, there is also an endless supply of good news that too often we either choose to ignore it, have to search for it or the good news just remains unheard.
But maybe that is exactly what we need to do; make more of a conscious effort to look for good news, share it and create it.
When my Co- founder, Fiona and I created this site, The Merry Go Round, this was exactly our mission. We wanted to provide a channel to write about ideas, situations and experiences that provide humour, positivity and a different perspective to the narrow, judgmental pathways that can often be too familiar.
A channel that, while still acknowledging that unfortunate events and situations can take place in the world and even in our own lives, is able to build resilience through acknowledging and being grateful for all the positive and wonderful things life has to offer.
Thank you Noni, a channel that communicates positive news stories is exactly what we need for ourselves and our children. Thank you for selflessly using that forum to bring awareness to a growing issue and thank you for encouraging us all to embrace life, ourselves and each other.
