Beach beauty: Make up, but not…

By  |

We are finally in the summer months, which means long lazy days at the beach, yay! Now I know ladies, the thought of going out in public completely barefaced is more daunting than getting half naked in your bikini. But lets face it, no one wants to be that girl on the beach with a face full of (melting) makeup.

You can still wear makeup, whilst still protecting your gorgeous face from harmful UV rays. The trick is to go for something lightweight. Here are a few of our favourite beach friendly products:

BB Cream

Firstly, what is a BB Cream? BB Creams (short for beauty balm) are lighter than foundation but slightly heavier than a tinted moisturiser. In addition to hydrating and evening out skin tone, BB Creams provide light coverage with added skin care benefits like SPF, anti-oxidants and other anti ageing ingredients. They also have a light-reflecting component which gives your skin a fresh luminous glow!

Our Pick: Bobbi Brown, BB Cream, SPF 35 40ml $62

BB Cream SPF 30+

CC CREAM

CC Cream (short for correction cream or complexion corrector cream) is very similar to BB Cream. The main difference is CC Creams focus more on colour correcting to help with issues like acne, dark spots, redness or sallowness. It’s lighter than a BB Cream and generally less luminous.

Our Pick: Smashbox, Camera Ready CC Cream, 30ml $61

TINTED MOISTURISER

Tinted moisturisers have been around for ages, and are a go-to for many ladies during the summer months. They are lighter than a foundation but still give you just the right amount of coverage, adding a slight “tan” to your complexion.
Most importantly, tinted moisturiser keeps your skin hydrated, so important in the summer months. Whats not to love about them? Just be careful to check the label and make sure it comes with an SPF sunscreen as not all brands do.

Our pick: Mecca Cosmetica, In A Good Light SPF30+ Tinted

FAKE TAN

I know it’s not really makeup, but if you want a sun kissed glow and you don’t have the time to put on makeup or just don’t feel like wearing it, a gradual face tanner is the way to go. Opt for products which have ingredients like aloe vera or cocoa butter, they are extremely hydrating and after being in the sun all day your skin will thank you for it.
Just remember fake tans generally don’t come with an SPF in them so make sure you are applying sunscreen before you hit the beach.

Our Pick: Bondi Sands, Gradual Tanning Milk for the face 75ml $19.95

So there you have it, four options for your skin while you hit the beach! Enjoy xx
