How to create a home office in a small space.

Not everyone has the luxuries of a dedicated office space at home. It’s nice to have a specific spot to put your laptop, computer, printer, books and bills without it taking over your house.

Where do you sit when you need to pay that bill or read over your mortgage forms? Or what if you have just ventured into studying and need somewhere to sit down and spread out your books and write notes?

I totally understand how hard it is to keep work spaces tidy; especially when you don’t have a designated area. However, a well organised desk can encourage more creativity, efficiently and maximum productivity.

Here are some suggestions for a home office with limited space:

#1 Find a little nook in your house and fill it with a desk. These types of desks often work best, just off or near the kitchen/dining area. That way if you have young children they can work away at their homework while you cook dinner and still keep an eye on them.

Chalkboard paint is also a great way to stay organised and keep on top of things.  You can write to-do lists or keep tabs on your children’s homework schedule. It also reduces the amount of paper and therefore, less clutter!

#2 Introducing a desk in a concealed cupboard is a great way to effectively use space. It works really well if you are limited for space and you can close the door to mess or distractions anytime! It also makes ‘signing off’ for the day a lot easier! Either way it is great to have a designated area for books/paperwork and laptop.

#3 Under the stairs in a house is often a wasted and awkward space. It is either used as a cupboard or just blocked out with plasterboard. If this is the case in your house and you are lacking space and cannot justify sparing a whole room dedicated to an office than this is your solution.

#4 Or you could just find the loveliest spot in your house and set up your home office in this location. Under a window, where the view and the light is great would be my pick for a study.
